GARDENWOOD FOUNDER
Melissa Watson-Clark, LCSW-C
After beginning her professional life as an Accountant, Melissa decided to begin a second career and went back to school to follow her lifelong dream of becoming a therapist. Receiving a Masters in Social Work from The University of Maryland School of Social Work in 2002, Melissa began her career at a non-profit where she supervised Family Support Workers who supported high-risk families by teaching activities that would help their children reach their developmental milestones.
Melissa worked as a therapist part time for a number of years while she pursued a career as a Social Worker with Baltimore County and a Trainer/Technical Coordinator for the Institute for Innovation and Implementation at the UMB, School of Social Work. She also received a Psychotherapy Certificate and a Graduate Certificate in Instructional Systems Design. |
After enjoying a successful and satisfying career, in 2018 Melissa decided to become a full-time therapist and founded Gardenwood Counseling Center. Listening to and supporting people through crisis and helping people reach their personal goals and milestones has been a passion and true calling on her life. Her study of the science and art of healing allows her to bring a diverse skillset to the work of therapy and holistic wellness. Melissa is an herbalist and a Reiki practitioner. She has studied and teaches her students how to use energy medicine such as EFT/tapping, visualization, meditation, and mindfulness as tools that support and promote their healing and growth. She has also taught them about the healing power of nature and often makes homework assignments to go outside and breathe in Mother Nature's healing touch.
With the onset of the pandemic, Melissa currently only offers online sessions. She hopes to open the doors to a new center in 2023. She offers individual counseling services and groups focused on changing our mindset to embrace infinite possibilities and wellness.
